Initial consultation
The initial consultation usually takes place in the studio, however, some people prefer to have a phone consultation instead, it's whatever makes you feel the most comfortable. Either way, we will discuss what you're looking for in a voiceover reel and speak about what is needed to create a balanced performance that will play to your strengths most successfully.

We will help guide you through the entire process of finding and choosing the correct pieces for your needs. We can point you to different resources online for your scripts. Some clients enjoy writing and personally tailoring their own scripts, with or without our guidance.

Over time, we have discovered some of the very best reels are a combination of materials that the client has researched and discovered themselves and tailored them to their own needs. If you're coming in for four voiceover pieces we suggest you bring eight or so, so that we can pull out the best that suits your voice for that day.

One of the reasons we suggest that the initial consultation takes place in the studio is it gives a chance for the client to get a feel for the space they will be working in. Also, it tends to help relax them and feel confident to create their strongest work and have fun while they do it.
The recording process
We strive to make all your reels sound unique and as personal to you as possible. If you would like, we are happy to work with you to personally tailor all your scripts so they're like no others. Or we can work with you to adapt existing material taken from multiple sources. Some good sources are recent newspaper articles, magazine articles, even YouTube and online script sites.

Recording is usually done over a four hour period in a single workday, this allows us to remove the pressure of getting everything right on the first take. The elements necessary for a successful recording is positivity, confidence, time, and meaningful direction.

We approach each recording session as if it was our own, and we work hard to smoothly coach you through the whole process no matter how much studio experience you might have. We also have an extensive in-house database of high quality music and sound effects to enhance the soundscape of your reel. We work very hard to make sure each reel sounds as dynamic and captivating as possible.

The finished product
The final reel will contain 4 to 6 pieces, made up of a mixture of promos, commercials, character ads, as well as documentary pieces, 'straight reads' and fiction. We also suggest any accents you can present well, then do include those too. A dynamic 1.5 minute montage of pieces will start off your voiceover reel. Followed by four 30 second clips to round out your demo reel.

When we edit and assemble your reel we compile the best pieces from each take, often using different lines from many different takes to reach the final perfect version. Then, we carefully add chosen bits of music and sound effects to enhance the final sound creating a "straight from the radio" sound and finally edit the highlights of all the pieces into the montage.

After that's all done we load up all your materials to our public server, which allows you to review and approve your performance from the comfort of your own home.

Please note: payment, cancellations and missed sessions
Your payment is due on the day of the session by cash, debit or credit card.  No material, including test edits and masters can be sent out until full payment has been received. Missed sessions, in other words, when you failed to show up for a recording session that you have booked without sufficient notice to fill the studio slot, will be charged up to the full session fee at Recording Star Studio's discretion.

We understand that castings come up sometimes only the day before your session and often can't be moved. However, if you can't give us at least 17 hours notice, we will have to charge you $150 cancellation fee for the "studio time" because it won't give us time to fill the empty slot.
